Sharing is caring

PL4L81kOh man, how much I love walking through the markets on a Thursday morning here in Lautoka. Watermelon, pineapple, Indian spices, lettuce and so much more. Breakfast just right on front of me!
Things have changed for me when it comes to fruits. I still remember we felt so special when we had bananas when I was a child. Oranges for Christmas was really something special. The banana was divided in 3 even pieces and shared between my parents and myself. Oranges and mandarines we peeled with love and care not to waste any juice. Same for watermelon, it was just so special.
Times have changed in Germany, but also we as human beings have moved on. Living now in Fiji is like living in paradise for me when it comes to fruits. Bananas are available all year around and they are still as mother nature made them. No artificial ripeners, flavor enhancer or some seedlessness. In Australia I already enjoyed the abundance of fruits, but still too much artificial influence during the growth process.
The sharing of fruits as I have mentioned above is a memory of my childhood I will never forget and I’m so grateful to my parents that I could have this luxury to learn and experience this.
Food in general is a hot topic for me. I believe nature has provided us with enough food, it’s just that humans became greedy and wanted food faster or someone wanted different food to be different (someone better) to everyone else.
I’m sure I will keep talking about this topic many more times, but I’m reaching work now.

Forgot my mandarines today 🙁

Peace out!

What a feeling

Yeah, after almost 2 years I have my blender back. The banana smoothie this morning … man … What a taste! Like the good old days. And all the stuff we can do now, blended soups, smoothies, baby food, crash the herbs and spices, ice cream! So many things I can put on our menu now. Happy days! Thanks for sending it over Daina.
And all the drinks I can take with me to work. I better prepare a list with what I need, so I can take my smoothies to work and Mark doesn’t need to cook just for me. Hopefully he sees it like I do.
In the same parcel the Fijian phrasebook arrived as well. No excuses anymore … I need to learn Fijian now.
Love my family and my life … off work. Peace out!

alternative breakfast spread

Felt like having kind of a different breakfast this morning. Kind of mixing up healthy and non-healthy food. So I went for fresh white bread with mashed banana-spread. I took four bananas, mashed them in a bowl and added some lemon juice. Yummy, very yummy indeed. It even impressed my hubby *proud smile*

Now the task could be to replace the white bread. Still have to say that I don’t have bread when my husband is at sea. I want to have healthy options, that’s why I am doing all these experiments. It’s not about proving anyone wrong or right.

No trust in mother nature’s fruits

I have to admit I had a quite a bad week when it came to food, but I still had mainly oranges, bananas and mandarins. And I had nice green salads with avocados and baked sweet potatoes in the evenings though. Everything you need when it comes to winter in Australia. However, I still had quite some chocolate and other “treats” this weeks. Feeling bad now calling them treats, as they do more damage to my body than good. It was emotional eating. But at least I’m aware of it.
Another challenge was the business trip to Sydney this weekend. Love flying, but I preferred this time to sleep, as I could feel a cold coming up. (Revenge of my body to all the so-called treats?)
For lunch we went to a nicer kind of pub and I ordered Nasi Goreng with prawns. This way I could avoid the meat part and still have my seafood. Love sea food 🙂 I don’t know, maybe I should not order an Asian dish in a pub, but that was more risotto than Nasi Goreng. A fried egg on top of it. No familiar Asian herbs, quite taste less. The first thing I ate was the little bit of green they put on the plate. I finished it, silly habit I grew up with, but nothing special and overpriced. Then I looked around me, everyone had eaten their chips and meat but left the green part. Why that? Oh, it’s rabbit food. Seriously? So, the woman in front of me pointed out, that she even wouldn’t classify half of it as salad as she didn’t know what it was. One of them was spinach by the way.
We trust chips that had been fried in some kind of oil and dead meat more than fruits of Mother Nature? When did that happen?
The finger food that had been provided at the evening party was nothing special either. Nice venue … But yeah, I’m not that much into partying and alcohol. But I expected something better from Sydney.
This whole food issue just keeps me thinking. How easy do we grab processed food and don’t even think about what it is or should be. It can’t be labelled basic food, as it has been processed by human hands. More machines, but I don’t want to go there, at least not in this post. Basic food should be fruits and veggies as provided by nature. Can’t get easier than that.
But people leave the “green stuff” on the plate as it is used as decoration.

I don’t know what it is. I can’t really come up with a solution, but maybe it makes you think about it for a bit. I just needed to get it out of my head, so there is more space again for other stuff 😉

Happiness leads to Success

… what do you think?

Let’s try it from this perspective. If you like what you do, things seem to be easier and you accept challenges far more easily as well. Also, you see failures as failing forward and learn from your mistakes. Things are happening and you feel good … doesn’t that feel like success?

So, what are the things I am currently enjoy doing?

  • Cert III in Fitness and not only because I am a student again 😉
  • Looking forward to Cert IV
  • hitting the gym myself
  • getting asked for advice, be it fitness-wise, food-wise or IT related (although I might have already lost some skills for the latter one)
  • boxing … looking so forward to reach the next level with my boxing skills
  • still my raw food journey although I should do more getting some “meals” prepared
  • Anything about Fiji … hype hasn’t calmed down yet. Looking forward to do more traveling over there
  • Looking actually forward to do more family things (be it with family back in Germany, but also having my own little one *blush*)
  • I want to go back playing my guitar

Ok, some actual future goals slipped into that list, but maybe you get the picture. I am actually feeling quite comfortable writing that now … far more relaxed compared to yesterday. You see how easily I got 9 points together … interesting. It’s all a question of where your mind is. Still not smiling though, but this will come over time, heheh!

Next step would be to ask yourself WHY, because that brings you to the next level on understanding yourself. Why do I still stick to that Raw Food “nonsense”? Because I believe that we (human) are meant to eat what Mother Nature gives us. But this is a completely other topic I could talk about for hours and it has been and will be definitely covered in this blog. Oh, by the way, still trying almost desperately now to get my mum of diary milk … mission for life.

Why fitness? I have been active all my life. I only became aware of it, when I started Uni and didn’t more or less move for years. That’s where I started to get back into sport, be it running, soccer, boxing and now I am even on my why to start a career in Personal Fitness. So watch the space … because I am not taking out the science, I am putting it back again 😀

Oh man, this writing flows much better already … I might have found something again. But don’t worry, I get my butt kicked to get back on track.

So, does happiness leads to success? I don’t know … but as long it makes you feel better, you should stick to it I think 🙂

I don’t know if that post will help, but it did help me 😉

The next post should be really about what is stoping you from doing what you enjoy and what to do about … another big topic.

Stir raw fried

The latest newsletter from Raw-Pleasure inspired me again to try something new from the raw food world. The challenge around this time is that it is winter and being a German you expect something warm. But I have learned to eat chilli and ginger to a degree and it has the same warming effect as a hot chicken soup 😉

The suggested preparation time of 15min … man … I doubled that. Maybe it is me being over-focused to not cut my fingers. The taste is yummy and it is very filling … thumbs up for this recipe. Check out the video … Jennie from Raw Pleasure does an awesome job.

Ingredients and Procedure

Too many carrots? – Juice them!

My weekly Grocery delivery is always a bit of a surprise. What will I have to eat for the next 7 days? I am not really into the huge amount of onions and potatoes I receive, but that’s part of living in Australia I guess. Also, this week we had 1kg of carrots in the box. What to do with it, when you don’t like to nibble on them everyday like a rabbit. I was very happy to see that the carrot where the juice kind of carrots, so not too boring. However, I sacrificed 5 of them for a juicing adventure. In the box was also broccoli, and I read before that juicing broccoli gives you all its healthy stuff.

Here is the result, I also added 3 cloves of garlic. The taste is very intense mixture of garlic and broccoli. I didn’t expect for the broccoli to be that strong. But it was yummy, drinkable and I definitely will do it again.

What juice ideas do you have?

Raw Carrot-Apple chips

Drinking plenty of water is high on my list, but sometimes you just feel like drinking something else. I had a look around what I could put together into a juicer and found carrots and Granny Smith apples. Recyclist as I was raised, I also was looking for a way to utilize from the “juicer’s left over”. Why not creating some chips, as I had planned on that evening to watch a movie anyway.

So, here we are , 3 -4 carrots and 3 Granny Smith apples, mashed into juicer. Put also in at least half a lemon to avoid oxidation of the apple and the carrot. As I wanted to use the pulp, I removed the inner part of the apple before juicing.

Put the juice aside and form kind of a dough out of the pulp. It won’t be perfect, don’t worry, we are just  looking for excellence 😉 To be a bit more creative I used the biscuit cutter, yes the ones I normally use only for christmas.

As the ultimate raw foodist you would put this now into a dehydrator for a couple of hours. However, a dehydrator is not part of my kitchen equipment yet. Instead the “chips” went into the oven for at least an hour to get them dry. Don’t burn them. It is more trial and error and with a temperature too high, you are not qualifying anymore to be a raw eater!

In my case, the chips were still a bit moisture in the inside, but enough to get them into a dip and enjoy them with a good movie.

Enjoy! 🙂

Blizz balls – my way

Health is for me a hot topic, but for more than a year now I am more interest in how we can improve our health through the right nutrition. I have attended several events and meetups covering topics about raw and whole food. And yes, my scientific brain got fried and I was tempted to leave the event earlier. However, I could increase my tolerance level a bit and tried to listen and understand. But theories don’t really do anything, except keep your mind juggling.

To know and not to do is not to know. – Unknown source

So, what’s the worst thing that can happen when you try to eat raw? You won’t starve to death and you might save some chickens. You can always go back to your old habbits.

Last Friday I went to the Raw Food restaurant here in Burleigh From Earth and Water. Very yummy food. The actual natural taste of fruits and veggies is amazing and unfortunately we have forgotten it. Yes, you can have a meal without tomato sauce! I already tried several recipes from a guy in the US, but I have forgotten his name 🙁 I am sure I will post about his book later. So, this weekend I’ve tried several things:

  • Mixed berry smoothie with raw almond milk
  • Tomato basil soup (with coconut water …. super yummy)
  • Blizz balls
Blizz Balls in the bowl
Blizz Balls a la JS

As I did the almond milk, I had almond pulp left, which I then used in the Blizz Balls. The balls are a mixture of Almond pulp, sesame seeds, Marple Syrup, Dates, dried cranberries, Sunflower Seeds, Coconut and a bit of Vanilla Essence. I put everything in the food processor until it came out a s a kneadable dough 😉 The vanilla essense is very strong, one or two drops could be enough. Between the marple syrup and dates I could have left out one of them. The dates themselves give the dough enough stickiness. I put the balls in the freezer and get them out as a snack … not too bad, but could be better, hehe!

I like the idea of eating living food. If you think about a human body’s normal temperature is around 36-38 degrees Celsius. Above that we actually die. Proteins denature and the whole metabolism just goes wrong. But we still eat food sometimes near boiling temperature, we burn our lips and tongue and maybe damage the oesophagus and even stomach.

The other thing is high temperatures kills … it kills plants. Therefore the stew we just brew together is a bunch of dead things. But yes, they say it is full of vitamines, minerales and proteins … that’s right, but it what state are they? Non-functional! Our body is a system and everything has to work with each-other so the whole body can function. An isolated Vitamine A (as you can buy it as a capsule) can’t do anything because it is not in the right environment it meant to work.

So, it’s lunch time now here and I will warm up a bit the Tomato-Basil soup (not above 40 degrees Celsius) and enjoy.

If you want to share your recipes or you want to know the soup’s ingredients … let me now in the comment section.
